About us

Since beginning our journey in 1993, Bookworm has sought to enrich the lives of children by bringing them wonderful literature. Through our bookfairs, we have hoped to:

  • Introduce children to the classics and other high quality literature.
  • Provide books that expand children's knowledge and understanding of the world around them.
  • Encourage and sustain a great love of reading among children.

To accomplish these goals, we read thousands of books each year from across a wide range of publishers, selecting only the best. We look for books that will captivate children's minds and imaginations, while steering away from low quality, popular titles that may sell well but provide limited benefit to children.

Our bookfairs allow us the forum through which we can share these wonderful books with children and their families. We thrive on our relationships with likeminded librarians, teachers, and parents and value our special partnership with schools. We want to help make each bookfair a unique experience, bringing a school community together to celebrate reading, learning and growing.

With fifteen years of experience and expertise behind us, we are now expanding our services to include a Virtual Bookfair.  This fundraiser will allow our customers to view and purchase hand-picked books, educational games and learning resources all year round.  In addition to our Virtual Bookfair, we are also expanding our services to include specialty fairs and direct bulk purchases through our warehouse and web site. We hope that our new endeavors will complement our onsite bookfairs, enabling us to serve children and their learning needs more comprehensively. And, as we extend the scope of our work, we remain dedicated to personal, prompt and caring customer service.

Today, Bookworm works with over 200 schools in Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, DC, serving them from our Manassas, Virginia warehouse.

In all that we do, we work diligently to live up to our motto of

"Growing Fine Minds".

Our philosophy

We believe that good literature has the power to provoke thought, spark imagination, and shape character. It reinforces the concepts essential to civilized society: courage, compassion, integrity, goodness and gratitude. Books bring these gifts to life, helping children develop inner resources that can be drawn upon throughout their lives.

“With Bookworm as our Book Fair vendor, I know the selection of books will be high quality in every regard. In fact, I feel confident enough in this to allow Norwood Middle School students to count any book purchased at our Book Fair as part of their summer reading requirement.” Sue Gail Spring, Head Librarian, Norwood School
“Bookworm consistently offers our students an outstanding selection of quality literature. What other company previews each and every book in its collection?” Karen Kelly, St. Mary’s Catholic School, Alexandria
“We hear time and time again from parents and teachers that our fairs provide an excellent selection of quality books, both fiction and non-fiction. Valerie Van Note-Kreider, Bookfair Coordinator, Nysmith School
“The thing I appreciate most about Bookworm(besides their excellent staff and excellent responsiveness) is that we can almost customize our bookfair to suit the needs of our students, teachers and parents.” Jeanne Rucks, Wolftrap ES, Vienna VA
“Staff, parents, and students were all impressed and in awe of the quality and selection of books on offer. There was an excitement and buzz about the school all week. Children running to me with checks, reporting back to me that they had already finished the book they bought the day before, and often parents popping in more than once to purchase…. the POS system was a breeze. I trained different volunteers every two hours, each day, and it was very manageable to everyone.” Kristin Teeters, Librarian, British School of Washington
